New type Erasmus+ grant

06/09/2022

From spring 2023, the first Fontys students will make use of a new type of Erasmus+ grant. This grant, "international mobility" is for students going to a country outside the Erasmus+ Programme countries. This will make it possible for students to visit some of the Fontys partner institutions in the United Kingdom. Other partner institutions have also been chosen.

The aim of the European Commission for this widening of Erasmus+ is to give more students the opportunity to gain international experience and strengthen their competences worldwide. In addition, the commission hopes that they will return with an innovative perspective on global challenges. For Fontys and the selected partner institutions it is an opportunity to enter into a strengthened long-term relationship with an international cooperation partner.

The choice of the 9 institutions has been made per cluster and allows students from that cluster to apply for an Erasmus+ grant if they go to that specific partner institution. For students, this can make a big difference. The amount can amount to more than €700 per month for a destination outside Europe and about €360 per month for the UK. In addition, students who go to a destination outside Europe receive a travel allowance from Erasmus+.

The partner institutions were chosen on the basis of a good relationship, with mobility both ways and where this grant can stimulate students to make this choice in order to further exploit the potential of this partner. In addition, the partner was not allowed to be a fee-paying partner and the education is accessible to as many students of the cluster as possible.

Currently, contracts are being signed with the selected institutions and we are working on setting up this type of mobility in Mobility Online, so that after the selection and nomination, the students of Spring 2023 will be placed in the right Mobility Online pipeline. As we are limited in the amount of Erasmus+ budget that can be spent on this type of mobility, we will start relatively small, with 9 partners, and after the selection of Fall 2023 we will see what this does to the numbers of students going to these partners, to see if this agreement can be made with more partners.
