Design and Build of a Smartphone-Driven Kart: A Blend of Programming and Mechanics
EPHEC offers Design and Build of a Smartphone-Driven Kart: A Blend of Programming and Mechanics, an international Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) that combines engineering, programming, electronics, and innovation in a unique hands-on learning experience.

This programme combines an online preparation session with an intensive on-campus week in Brussels, Belgium, where you will collaborate with students from across Europe to design, build, and programme a smartphone-controlled electric kart.
Working in international and multidisciplinary teams, you will transform a pedal-powered kart into a battery-powered electric vehicle. By integrating mechanics, electronics, and software development, you will gain practical experience in designing and implementing a complete mechatronic system.

During the programme, you will:

  • Convert a pedal-powered kart into a battery-powered electric vehicle.
  • Develop a smartphone application to control the kart via Bluetooth.
  • Learn how to use Arduino microcontrollers and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communication.
  • Integrate electronic components, including servo motors, electric motors, and motor controllers.
  • Explore rapid prototyping techniques using 3D printing.
  • Apply engineering principles to solve real-world technical challenges.
  • Collaborate with international teams in a multidisciplinary project environment.
  • Strengthen your creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and intercultural communication skills.

By participating, you will gain valuable hands-on experience in programming, electronics, mechanics, and embedded systems while developing the technical and collaborative skills needed for today's engineering and technology sectors. You will also expand your international network by working closely with students and lecturers from partner universities across Europe.
